AICHR | At the 8th Interface Meeting between AICHR and Australia on 12 May 2025, potential areas of collaboration were discussed, including knowledge sharing and capacity building, and emerging threats to human rights, such as online scamming, artificial intelligence, and regional conflicts.

Embassy of Switzerland in Indonesia | Switzerland reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to promoting and protecting human rights in the ASEAN region and to mainstreaming human rights across sectors. Since 2020, Switzerland and AICHR have worked hand-in-hand on many issues, including torture prevention, freedom of expression, business and human rights, and child rights.

AICHR akan meneliti Rancangan Kerja Lima Tahun AICHR bagi tahun 2026 hingga 2030.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Malaysia | AICHR’s 41st meeting will be held from 12 to 16 May 2025, chaired by Edmund Bon, AICHR’s 2025 Chair and Malaysia’s Representative to AICHR. The meeting will discuss the proposed ASEAN declarations on the right to development and peace, and on the right to a safe, clean, healthy and sustainable environment.

Bernama | AICHR will convene its 41st Meeting in Jakarta from 12 to 16 May, chaired by Edmund Bon, Malaysia’s Representative to AICHR and AICHR’s Chair for 2025. Malaysia’s leadership of this meeting underscores its commitment to advancing human rights promotion and protection through regional dialogue and the exploration of new avenues for collaboration.

Business Today | The 41st AICHR meeting will gather representatives from all 10 ASEAN member states, with Timor-Leste participating as an observer. It will focus on regional human rights priorities, including draft declarations on the rights to development and peace, and to a safe and sustainable environment.

AICHR | AICHR convened a regional consultation to develop its next Five-Year Work Plan. This marked the first time that AICHR has held an open consultation on its work plan, to consult, discuss and receive feedback and inputs from stakeholders.

AICHR | The 2nd AICHR Consultation on the Human Right to Development highlighted the importance of the right to development in all its facets and how the right relates to inclusive, equitable and sustainable development, poverty alleviation, environmental protection, and ASEAN peace.

Scoop | AICHR Chair Edmund Bon said AICHR’s Five-Year Work Plan (2026-2030) must be forward-looking and adaptable to global shifts such as the rise of artificial intelligence, climate change, and emerging security threats. The work plan will be pivotal in shaping the future direction of human rights in the region.

Bernama | AICHR’s Five-Year Work Plan (2026-2030) is aimed at strengthening the protection and promotion of human rights across Southeast Asia, amid evolving regional and global challenges. It will serve as a strategic framework guiding AICHR’s activities over the next five years, in line with the ASEAN Community Vision 2045 and various Strategic Plans of Action under the ASEAN framework.

Bon said he has conveyed the challenges that come with hosting refugees to AICHR’s Myanmar representative.

Scoop | AICHR Chair Edmund Bon called on ASEAN to act swiftly in addressing rising non-traditional security challenges such as refugee crises, forced labour, and conflict, warning that failure to do so could undermine the bloc’s relevance. He said the emergence of non-traditional security challenges has become increasingly evident across the region.
