The ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), led by Malaysia, will convene two workshops in continuation of the “AICHR Regional Training Programme on Human Rights — Workshops on Intersection Between Conflict and Human Rights: Pathways and Approaches to Peace in ASEAN” from 23 to 24 October 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
These workshops form part of a six-part programme designed to develop an ASEAN framework for conflict prevention, crisis management, and peacebuilding in the region to meet the goals of ASEAN 2045: Our Shared Future adopted on 26 May 2025. The first four workshops were held earlier in the year.
Bringing together ASEAN bodies, national human rights institutions, diplomats, academics, peace mediators, experts, and civil society, the workshops aim to foster meaningful dialogue, share best practices, and strengthen collaborative, inclusive, rights-based strategies to advance peace across the region.
These fifth and sixth meetings will focus on identifying key actors, safe spaces, and effective processes needed for constructive dialogues that build trust and lead to better outcomes in conflict situations. Building on the first four workshops, the meetings will also refine a roadmap for ASEAN’s evolving peace initiatives.
The workshops are part of Malaysia’s inclusivity and sustainability agenda as the ASEAN Chair in 2025, promoting and protecting human rights and regional peace and security, in line with ASEAN’s vision of a resilient, progressive, and people-centred Community grounded in multilateralism and shared responsibility.
