The Edge Malaysia | AICHR Chair Edmund Bon said a regional plan of action is being developed to address the implementation of the recently adopted ASEAN declaration on environmental rights. He added that more buy-in is needed from ASEAN sectoral bodies, such as the environmental and economic bodies at national levels, to ensure the declaration is realised effectively.

AICHR | The AICHR regional consultation held on 15 and 16 December 2025 marked an important step in moving the ASEAN Declaration on the Right to a Safe, Clean, Healthy and Sustainable Environment from political commitment to structured and practical implementation.

The Star | AICHR Chair Edmund Bon shared how ASEAN can move beyond words and build mechanisms that make peace and development real for its people. Bon outlined, among others, AICHR’s proposals to optimise and scale up its people-facing coordination efforts.

KPWKM | The 5th Interface Meeting of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) with the ASEAN Commission on the Promotion and Protection of the Rights of Women and Children (ACWC) was held online on 11 December 2025, and co-chaired by Edmund Bon, Chair of AICHR, and Wan Noraidah binti Wan Mohd Zain, Chair of ACWC.

Ke Alaka’i | Panellist Edmund Bon, AICHR Chair for 2025, said promoting peace goes beyond addressing physical harm, as it also deals with how different groups are depicted and perceived. Being dehumanised, he explained, is cultural violence, while stripping individuals of their citizenship is structural. He urged for more discourse around the existence of structural and cultural violence, saying these types of devastating atrocities often go unnoticed.
