AICHR | AICHR’s 41st Meeting progressed and enhanced AICHR’s work by, among others, refining thematic focus areas, strengthening partnership and cross-pillar coordination, and engaging in strategic planning towards advancing human rights cooperation in the region. It was chaired by Edmund Bon, Chair of AICHR in 2025 and Representative of Malaysia to AICHR.
AICHR | At the 4th Interface Meeting between the AICHR and Japan on 13 May 2025, topics discussed included the promotion of the rights of women, persons with disabilities, and older persons; business and human rights; environmental issues; the right to development; and digital transformation.
AICHR | At the inaugural Interface Meeting between AICHR and Norway on 13 May 2025, both sides reaffirmed their shared commitment to deepening collaboration and looked forward to future interface meetings as part of a sustained and constructive dialogue on human rights.
AICHR | At the 8th Interface Meeting between AICHR and Australia on 12 May 2025, potential areas of collaboration were discussed, including knowledge sharing and capacity building, and emerging threats to human rights, such as online scamming, artificial intelligence, and regional conflicts.
Embassy of Switzerland in Indonesia | Switzerland reaffirmed its longstanding commitment to promoting and protecting human rights in the ASEAN region and to mainstreaming human rights across sectors. Since 2020, Switzerland and AICHR have worked hand-in-hand on many issues, including torture prevention, freedom of expression, business and human rights, and child rights.
The Edge Malaysia | Amer Hamzah, representing one of the six men sentenced to death, argued that Singapore’s “dual crimes” principle should be applied, whereby in a crime with multiple people, each person can be charged based on their actions and intent. Joshua Tay and Lee Yee Woei also acted for S. Nimalan.
