Human Rights in ASEAN: trusted collaboration between Switzerland and the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) enters a new phase.

The Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Switzerland to Indonesia, Timor-Leste and ASEAN, Mr. Mathias Domenig, and H.E. Edmund Bon Tai Soon, Representative of Malaysia and Chair of the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), co-chaired the interface meeting between Switzerland and the AICHR at The ASEAN Secretariat yesterday.

Switzerland reaffirms its longstanding commitment to the promotion and protection of human rights in the ASEAN region and to mainstreaming human rights across sectors. As AICHR develops its new Work Plan 2026–2030, Switzerland communicated its readiness to continue this important partnership and deliver collaborations that are long-term, sustainable, and inclusive, with broad stakeholder engagement.

This is the fourth edition of the Switzerland–AICHR dialogue. Since 2020 and in the framework of the Swiss-ASEAN sectoral dialogue partnership, Switzerland and AICHR have worked hand-in-hand across a broad range of human rights issues, including torture prevention, freedom of expression, business and human rights, child rights, and the right to clean water, among others.
