Lawyer Amer Hamzah Arshad said that the exchange of ideas was needed for the country to move forward and, inevitably, there would be discussions on sensitive issues but the sedition law deterred the public from having discourse on these.

Malay Mail | A three-man bench at the Federal Court affirmed the Court of Appeal’s ruling after submissions from UM’s lawyer Datuk Muhammad Adam Abdullah and the students’ counsel Edmund Bon. In 2016, the Shah Alam High Court had ruled that disciplinary proceedings against the UM students were not conducted in accordance with the university’s procedures.
