The ongoing youth debate on human rights here focuses on five sustainable development goals (SDG), namely good health and well-being, climate action, gender equality, decent work and economic growth, and peace, justice and strong institutions.
Malaysia’s representative to ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR), Edmund Bon Tai Soon said the SDGs’ aim was to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure all enjoyed peace and prosperity.
“It is important to remember that while SDGs seem to focus on achievements of communities and countries, they really arise from the concern for the rights, dignity and well-being of each individual, which is clearly spelled out in the ASEAN Human Rights Declaration 2012 (AHRD),” he said in his speech at the University of Malaya’s Law Faculty here today.
