A student, who is charged with causing the death of a restaurant patron with her dangerous driving, is seeking to have the charge withdrawn.

Counsel Edmund Bon told magistrate Azroul Hisham yesterday that he had sent a letter to the Attorney General’s Chambers on Dec 29 making the request for Charlene anak Joseph Jindi.

Bon urged the court to postpone the trial pending the outcome of the request.

He also said that the defence had only received on Friday several documents like the Puspakom report, several photographs and Charlene’s statement to the police and therefore had not had sufficient time to go through them.

Charlene, 22, was charged on July 1 with driving a car recklessly and dangerously , which allegedly rammed into Nur Shuhaila Tajudin, 19, outside a restaurant in Jalan 14/14 here on May 25.

Charlene, who is out on a RM5,000 bail, faces a jail term of between two and 10 years, and a fine of between RM5,000 and RM20,000 if convicted.

Her driving licence has been suspended.

Azroul fixed March 23 for hearing.

Chief Insp Thong Seng Kong prosecuted.
