Edmund Bon, the lawyer for Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, has taken to Twitter to defend his decision to represent the embattled Selangor Mentri Besar in his fight against Pakatan Rakyat.

“I have said time again there are some lawyers who are politicians (in parties) + some lawyers only. I choose the latter. I have no conflict,” said Bon via his Twitter account, @edmundbon on Wednesday.

Bon pointed out he had represented both Khalid and the Selangor state government before, and would continue to act as legal counsel for other PKR politicians, including Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar and Batu MP Tian Chua (actual name is Chua Tian Chang).

“I have acted for Khalid and State since 2008/9. During that time Khalid was supported by party #PKR. At same (time) I act & acted for Izzah, Tian, party #PKR members etc & will continue to the best of my ability,” said Bon.

Bon also said he had acted for former Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin during the 2009 Perak constitutional crisis.

In a series of tweets, he said that the internal crisis in PKR following Khalid’s sacking from the party last Saturday would not affect his work as a lawyer, and that he does not blame Malaysians who see a conflict of interests in him acting for Khalid.

“Internal struggle within #PKR does not affect my work & does not require me to choose sides. I am independent, acting w/o fear…. This is the extent of political partisanship in Malaysia. So divided,” said Bon.

He said that lawyers were professional enough to distinguish between work and personal matters.

“In court we don’t attack each other as counsel personally. We deal with the case and facts. We should not be personal about these games. Yes. “Games”. Politicians play games. If cant stomach the game or win, don’t play it. As professionals a game is a game. Don’t be fooled,” tweeted Bon.

Bon urged his followers on Twitter to not be fooled by political manoeuvring.

“You call it out as a game then you see the realism of it all. In next few weeks things will die down. Hugs. Then love. Do you think all that wayang in Parliament is real? Ask how close some from the Opp bench are with Govt. Don’t be fooled. I’m not,” said Bon.

He also said that he had many friends within the party.

“Many of my friends in #PKR are to me my friends who I will always remember & cherish cos we fought and learnt together,” said Bon.
