A child has to be brought before a Court for Children within 24 hours of being arrested. Lawyer New Sin Yew lauded this judgment; a detention centre is no place for a child. New Straits Times | MUDA Sec-Gen Amir Hariri Abd Hadi was charged under section 9(1) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012, which carries a maximum RM10,000 fine upon conviction, for failing to notify the authorities before the #ManaKapalLCS protest. Lawyer Beatrice Chin Yuen Xin pleaded for a lower bail as this was Amir’s first offence and he had cooperated with the authorities throughout their investigation.
