On 1 July 2026, Mr. Edmund Bon Tai Soon, Malaysia’s Representative to the ASEAN Intergovernmental Commission on Human Rights (AICHR) paid a courtesy call on His Excellency Datuk Eldeen Husaini, Ambassador of Malaysia to France.
The meeting included a discussion on Mr. Edmund Bon’s participation in the 9th World Congress Against the Death Penalty, where he represented Malaysia as a speaker and shared perspectives on ASEAN’s role in advancing regional cooperation towards the abolition of the death penalty. While ASEAN provides an important platform for dialogue, progress across Southeast Asia continues to vary, with member states at different stages of legal and policy reform.
The courtesy call also provided an opportunity to exchange views on current regional and international issues, reaffirming the importance of continued dialogue and cooperation in promoting human rights and strengthening ASEAN collaboration.
