Businessman Habibul Rahman Kadir Shah says former minister Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has refused to apologise for his remarks.

A businessman said he will proceed with his legal action against Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman over allegations linking him to a “plot” to offer bribes to BERSATU members.

Habibul Rahman Kadir Shah said Syed Saddiq’s lawyers, from AmerBON, had responded to his letter of demand last month.

He said the former minister had refused to apologise for his remarks.

“I have instructed my solicitors to initiate a lawsuit against Syed Saddiq,” he said in a statement.

Habibul had previously demanded that Syed Saddiq apologise for linking him to a purported plot to offer bribes to BERSATU members.

He said the alleged defamatory statement was made by Syed Saddiq at a press conference on 2 October 2017.

Reports had said that Syed Saddiq, who was then the BERSATU Youth chief, had alleged that there was a “systematic” attempt to influence BERSATU leaders to quit the party in 2017.

Habibul wanted an apology within nine days (from 17 September), damages and an undertaking that Syed Saddiq would not repeat the alleged defamatory words.
