We are thrilled to announce that Khor Xiou Shan (Valen) has joined us.
Valen brings with her 15 years of experience. Focusing on the construction, infrastructure, and engineering industries, her practice encompasses various aspects, including dispute resolution through litigation, mediation, adjudication, and arbitration. Valen is an adjudicator with the Asian International Arbitration Centre (AIAC) empanelled to hear matters under the Construction Industry Payment and Adjudication Act 2012 (CIPAA). She has an active adjudication practice, regularly acting for both claimants and respondents in adjudications.
Valen also negotiates and drafts complex contracts for a wide array of domestic and international projects, and provides clients risk management and dispute avoidance advisory services. Such contracts include joint venture, shareholder, partnership, sub-contract, operation and maintenance, and consultancy agreements. Further, she provides critical legal and technical support throughout the lifecycle of projects, from procurement, design, and architectural stages, to the administration of project-related contracts. She is fluent with standard form contracts issued by the Institution of Engineers (IEM), Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM), and the Malaysian government’s Public Works Department (PWD).
Complementing her core expertise in the construction, infrastructure, and engineering sectors, Valen frequently advises on non-contentious corporate and commercial transactions in the mining and extractive industries. Her guidance has benefitted clients involved in the oil, gas, mineral, sand, and timber sectors.
Valen established a strong foothold in civil and commercial litigation early in her career, demonstrating her expertise in handling diverse legal cases at a prominent law firm in Kuala Lumpur. In 2016, she established Valen Khor & Associates and is now well recognised as a skilled lawyer in the Malaysian legal landscape.
Edmund Bon, Head of Chambers (Civil), welcomes Valen to the team:
Valen is one of the more accomplished lawyers of her generation in the sector, so it was a no-brainer. She has an unparalleled passion for her work and is one of the most meticulous litigators I have come across. Her comprehensive skill set makes her a valuable addition to our team. She will boost our services in the intricate field of construction, infrastructure, and engineering law and add further depth to our capacity to serve a diverse clientele. We warmly welcome her and hope we can provide the perfect platform for her practice to thrive. Given the unique nature of our chambers, we are glad she shares our vision and we are quite certain she will flourish.
Valen comments on her move:
I have been closely working with AmerBON to serve mutual clients for some time now. Joining forces with the chambers will expand my professional horizons and improve the dynamics of my practice. Clients increasingly face resource constraints and inflation, and innovation and collaboration are the way forward. AmerBON provides these. I am excited to work with my new colleagues to add value and provide outstanding services to our clients.
